Conference: The Georgia Communication Association, state affiliate to the National Communication Association, is a network of secondary and post-secondary educators, working professionals, graduate and undergraduate students. Since 1931, GCA has served the advancement of communication inquiry and education in the state of Georgia. At our 2025 conference, attendees can expect to learn about new theories and methods in communication research, applications to understand the ways that communication shapes and is shaped by our world, and techniques to impact that world through education and praxis.
Program & Networking Fair: GCA welcomes any interested institution to participate in a Program & Networking Fair. Each participant will have a space assigned for a time block for meeting with prospective students, job applicants, or for other related networking. To reserve a space, please send an email directly to sstuglin@highlands.edu with ‘Program and Networking Fair’ in the Subject Line.
Awards: We have arranged for the following SIX awards, in addition to those awarded at the Film Festival.
- Top Paper, Top Student Paper – awarded to the highest reviewed full papers
- Top Presentation, Top Student Presentation – awarded to the highest presentations rated best during the event
- Most Engaged Institution (NEW) – awarded to the institution demonstrating the most engagement with GCA and passion for communication scholarship in Georgia, as determined by the number of accepted submissions in any category (excluding Film Festival submissions).
- Student Involvement Champion (NEW) – awarded to the institution demonstrating commitment to empowering student participation and encouraging robust representation, as determined by the number of students (any level) that register and attend the conference and/or film festival, the number that present at the event, and recognition of distance traveled.
Presenters: If you submitted to GCA, you should have received a notification about your submission. If not, contact us for help.
Volunteers: Thank you to those that Reviewed for us already! Many of you also volunteered to Respond or to Moderate at the conference, and some of you have been assigned to do so. Please review the draft program to see if you’ve been assigned to something. Expect further information about your responsibilities in early January. Thank you!

Film Festival: The Georgia Communication Association Film Festival (GCAFF) is an annual student film festival presented by the Georgia Communication Association (GCA). GCA was established in 1931 with the purpose of fostering interest in communication studies, arts, and education. It is the state affiliate of the National Communication Association. GCAFF showcases outstanding films and videos made by college/university students in Georgia. We seek to highlight students’ inspiring work that reflects their creative voices and unique talents. The festival screening will take place on February 7, 2025, at University of West Georgia in Carrollton, GA. Online submissions will be accepted until December 31, 2024.
