Submission Central is your portal for submitting paper, panel, and other proposals for the conference. You can also view your current submissions and prior submissions made at this site. If you are assigned to review, you will be able to see those submissions and complete those reviews here.
Submissions are due Friday, November 15th and decisions will be announced by Christmas!
Note that Film Festival submission is a different process.
Submission Formats

Paper Presentation (10-15 min) Similar papers may be grouped in a session. Submit an Author(s), Title, and Category. Submit a 250 Word Abstract into the text box, and attach a synopsis of the complete paper and works cited (1-3 pages). Alternatively, we encourage submission of full papers, which will qualify for the Top Paper award. To submit a qualifying paper, submit a 250 Word Abstract into the text box, and attach a completed paper and bibliography (25 pages max).
Panel Presentation (45 min) Intended for multiple presenters that may include faculty, students, and/or community partners, ideally with an interactive component. Submit Panelists (minimum 2), Title, and Category. Submit a 250-word abstract into the text box, and attach a document with a biography of panelists (1 paragraph each) and an annotated bibliography of relevant materials (annotation of 1 paragraph or less per source, 3 pages max).
Roundtable Discussion (45 min) A presenter-facilitated discussion allowing for deeper engagement with an idea, trend, program, or research topic. Submit a Presenter(s), Title, and Category. Submit a 250-word abstract into the text box, and attach a document with a biography of presenters (1 paragraph each) and an annotated bibliography of relevant materials (annotation of 1 paragraph or less per source, 3 pages max).
Interactive Workshop (45 min) Allows faculty, students, and/or communication practitioners to actively teach models for engaged or community-based learning. Submit a Presenter(s), Title, and Category. Submit a 250-word abstract into the text box, and attach a document with a biography of presenters (1 paragraph each) and an annotated bibliography of relevant materials (annotation of 1 paragraph or less per source, 3 pages max).
Immersive Experience (90 min) A longer-form interactive workshop allowing for extended time to examine a singular topic or issue in depth. Submit a Presenter(s), Title, and Category. Submit a 250-word abstract into the text box, and attach a document with a biography of presenters (1 paragraph each) and an annotated bibliography of relevant materials (annotation of 1 paragraph or less per source, 3 pages max).
“Great Ideas for Teaching Students”/GIFTS (5 minute max) Submit an abbreviated classroom idea, assignment, or activity that inspires innovative teaching and learning. Submit an Author(s), Title, and Category. Submit a 250-word abstract into the text box, and attach a document with a biography of presenters (1 paragraph each) and an annotated bibliography of relevant materials (annotation of 1 paragraph or less per source, 3 pages max).
Submission Categories
Categories have been revised from past years. Please choose your best fit.
Argumentation and Forensics – submissions regarding structural argument, the process of argumentation, argument case studies, formal debate, competitive speech, or forensics.
Communication Theory and Methodology – submissions that develop, challenge, or extend communication theory or methodology, broadly conceived.
Gender, Identity, Inclusion, and Justice Studies – submissions that engage with power dynamics, equity and inequity, via texts or voices from historically underrepresented groups, or that focus on communication from, to, or about those groups.
Health Communication – submissions focused on the application of communication theory and method to the use case of communication about health, disease, wellness, prevention, treatment, care, and communication in the practice of healthcare.
Instructional Development, Pedagogy, and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning – submissions regarding the analysis of existing constructs about the ways we learn and do not learn, best practices for use in educating, and demonstrations of methods or tools to teach concepts, skills, or content.
Interpersonal and Small Group Communication – submissions focused on the application of communication theory and method to the use case of communication about or within romantic relationships, friendships, families, and small groups.
Intercultural Communication – submissions focused on the application of communication theory and method to the use case of communication about cultures, cultural difference, or understanding and misunderstanding between disparate cultural groups.
Language and Social Interaction – submissions regarding the ways social life is produced and organized through situated conversation, language use, and embodied interaction.
Film, Theater, and Performance Studies – submissions including or analyzing the communicative strategies and meanings in works film, theater, or other performance, or about the structure and activities of institutions focused on such forms of media.
Journalism and Mass Communication – submissions including or analyzing the communicative strategies and meanings in journalism, in any form, or in broadcasted works of fiction or non-fiction, or about the structure and activities of institutions focused on such forms of media.
Cultural Studies and New Media – submissions including or analyzing the communicative strategies and meanings on websites, podcasts, streaming libraries, or social media, or about the structure and activities of institutions focused on such forms of media, or critiques of the cultural landscape producing such work.
Games and Communication – submissions focused on the application of communication theory and method to the use case of communication about and within games, broadly conceived, including video games, classic games, table-top roleplaying, competitive gaming, and gamification.
Organization and Business Communication – submissions focused on the application of communication theory and method to the use case of communication within and between institutions (businesses, nonprofits, organizations, etc.).
Public Relations, Advertising, and Strategic Communication – submissions focused on the application of communication theory and method to the use case of communication between institutions and the public.
Rhetoric and Politics – submissions with a focus on analysis of the available and present means of persuasion in a given piece of communication, with emphasis on rhetorical appeals in communication from actors in public spaces: organizers, politicians, activists, leaders, etc.
